When the weather doesn’t cooperate, you keep driving until it does.

An adventure session in RMNP can “go” many ways. We can have rain, snow, hail, brilliant sunlight, and clouds. On this day with Natascha and Josué, we had it all. After their ceremony at 3M Curve, they chose to work with us to go on an adventure session up into the alpine and the weather hit us with all of the above. (If you’re unclear about what our adventure sessions are like, go to this link)

(Side note: I love it when our brides and grooms tell us why they chose us. We are so honored to not just be “a company” or “someone with a camera” to take photos.

In Natascha’s words: “We looked at everyone’s pictures and then saw yours and it was over. That’s exactly what we wanted”. What a humbling thing to say.)

On several occasions we all were uncertain if it would even work out. We got into our van, started driving, and it just kept getting worse. The sun went behind the clouds, the temps dropped, it started to rain, and then hail. Our usual plan is to drive to the alpine, get out for a bit of a walk, photograph for a while, then repeat at several locations. This time, we just kept driving for over an hour and found ourselves nearly in Grand Lake, on the other side of the continental divide! We stopped because, well, you can see the light coming through the trees was stunning and we couldn’t pass it up.

After shooting for a little while there in the trees it was time to get back in the van, drive a little, and try to get some photos up above tree line. The atmosphere didn’t disappoint. Clouds were rolling, fog was coming up the side of the cliffs, and it was nothing short of spectacular. At one point the clouds opened up and Josué smiled with his amazing, brilliant smile and spoke calmly the overused but incredibly timely “That’s what I’m talking about” as he looked out over miles and miles of sharp peaks and rolling tundra. This is why we do this. Enjoy the pictures from this eventful adventure session in RMNP. We enjoyed being there with this genuine, kind couple.

Natascha and Josué, thank you for your patience and adventurous spirit. You two were willing to freeze and get wet to “get the shot”. It’s because of people like you two that we love our work and we look forward to seeing you again someday. Cheers!
